Gil,

I am in the process of establishing an e-commerce company called “Very Pashmina” selling luxury cashmere pashminas and scarves online.

As I see you have experience in the apparel industry as well as in general consumer marketing I'd really appreciate your input on the business.

Warm Regards,

Matt

Raymond,

I am in the process of establishing an e-commerce company called "Very Pashmina" selling luxury cashmere pashminas and scarves online.

Ideally I'd like to totally outsource the back-end fulfillment side of the business. It would be great to get your input on this subject.

Warm Regards,

Thanks for the feedback. Shopping by recipe is one of the many ways items can be added to the list. We focus on it because it's the primary on-ramp to adopting our platform. Once you're a user, we'll offer other methods of entry to supplement the list. As this is an open forum, we didn't completely "open the kimono." To learn more, you'd have to bring us in for a meeting.

Hi Jason,

Can you shoot me a brief description of the actual mechanics of what you're trying to do? I have a general idea based on this post and have spoken with a couple of folks who've seen your presentation. However, I'd like to make sure that the business model hasn't changed before I waste your time with suggested contacts. Just as important, based on what you've written above, I suspect you might be looking to keep the model under wraps for the time being, so don't want to blow that by offering up names or suggestions over this public comments section that give everything away.

Interesting approach to shopping lists. The one thing I am not sure of is people consistently shopping by recipe. I think people usually shop for prepared foods, produce, staples (bread, milk) and the like. I understand that the revenue would be generated from advertising with these sites, but I also think that if a list of ingredients were "pre-populated" (e.g., choosing spaghetti and meatballs from the smartphone would automatically produce a list of items), people would be more apt to use your tool. The way it is structured now I think people may use it for weekend or entertaining shopping when they actually would follow a recipe.

I think you are on to something, but I think the focus should be on usability versus ad revenue generation.

Like Manpreet, I'd be interested in learning more on how a Chicago/North Michigan (does that mean the UP?) charter fundamentally differs from the wealth of charter services in and around Chicago.

From what I understand of the business model (which is, admittedly, very little, so I've little doubt that you've actually already addressed this concern), your point of differentiation with the charter services referenced above seems to be a specific focus on the single market of Chicago-Northern Michigan. May I assume that such a focus provides cost savings that makes you price-competitive with these other services? I'll confess; I'm innately wary of airline startups, given the volatility of the industry. Richard Branson put it well when he noted that "the easiest way to become a millionaire is to start out a billionaire then go into the airline business"

Anyhow, your KVC submission wasn't asking for unsolicited advice from folks like myself with no airline experience, so I'll leave it at that and get to the point. My father is a Boeing 777 Captain with UAL, based out of Chicago, with 30+ years experience, and a good understanding of the dynamics of the industry. If you feel it'd be helpful, I'd be glad to put you in touch with him. I'd also recommend reaching out to Mark Ahasic (Kellogg '08), whose career has largely been spent in the industry, working first for an airline (JetBlue) and now, since our graduation, in the airline consulting field.

While JetBlue and its ilk sit on the opposite end of the consumer spectrum vis a vis your presumed target market, Mark's industry experience in conjunction with his MBA experience would make him an invaluable resource. If you choose to get in touch with him, don't hesitate to tell him that I recommended you reach out to him, or, alternatively, shoot me an email if you'd like me to make an introduction.

We launched kidwinks.com 2 years ago, and it is becoming more recognized in the Chicago area, but we could use some guidance on how to grow faster in Chicago and then nationally.
Yes, I think we need to modify the concept for the model to fit the western culture. Working with Hospital is definitely very common in Asian practices.

But if we were to implement concierge type of service, there's a lot of limitation on type of services you can provide to the customers. Also, such service loses the points of differention very quickly. But maybe we can do something hybrid. Working with hotels near by Hospitals, and modifying some rooms they have maybe an option. (Implemented in Australia)

I asked Ken to forward you the video clip of a post natal care center in Korea on how they run various services in these facilities.

Dear Dr. Kelly,

I am Aniket Kaloti, MD, a neuroscience PhD candidate at NU and a fellow Mentor at KVC.

I have strong interest in both the medical device sector and the use of simulations in medical education.

I would like to discuss this further with you, since these are your interests too. In addition, we will be coordinating the induction of more healthcare mentors into KVC.

Please let me know how we should proceed.

John,
I think the Asian belief that the Mom should not leave bed after giving birth needs to be modified for the US market, essentially a concierge service for new Moms.

Liability is definitely a huge hurdle in the US medical industry. I think you should think services vs. a brick and mortar building to deliver them. Think about either partnering with hospitals that would be willing to outsource those services or bringing those services into someone's home.

Let me know what you think, but I think maybe a modification of this idea would fly to high income families.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your feedback. One of the reason why I think this concept works in Asian culture is because of their traditional belief that a mother should not leave the bed for few weeks after giving a birth, and be taken care of. One of my concern with implementing this concept in the US is the liability of taking care of the new-born baby. I have a video of how the new facility looks like, and how they operate. Please let me know if you are interested in seeing this video. I would like to discuss the concept further. Thanks.

John,
Interesting concept. My first question is why does this concept work in South Korea and other Asian cultures? If you can answer that, then you can start refining your business plan.

The challenge (besides culture) is overcoming the fragmented nature of healthcare in the U.S. Also, mother/newborn care classes are available (before birth), and overnight nurses (in the home) are also available for (those who can afford it) in many urban U.S. locations which would compete with some of your services.

You may want to pilot this in SF, LA or NYC given:
1) high Asian populations
2) high income
3) openness to non-traditional healthcare methods

Also, you may want to contract with concierge healthcare plans (fee for service or retainer) where patients pay cash directly to health care professionals. This may be a better way to market your business.

Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss further at debushell@yahoo.com.

This is an interesting venture. I have had prior experience in leveraging Internet and mobile technology to change behavior for people trying to lose weight and exercise for a variety of different medical conditions.

Would like to speak with someone more about this, especially the business model as there could be several stakeholders.

Navin and Matteo,
I would like to speak with you about your venture. Couple of questions/comments came immediately to mind:
* I think your CPM rate is low as you have a targeted patient audience and print journals usually charge lower CPM rates (then say online rates).
* Metrics are the most important thing to pharma companies. If you can demonstrate increased compliance or new prescriptions, then you can build revenue from there.
* I get the office-based product, but the pharmacy is going to be a hard sell since the Rx is already written. OTC may be a good way to go, since those products can be influenced at the point of purchase.
* You may be able to add an additional revenue stream by enabling a virtual pharmacist consult via your technology, although there are privacy concerns to be taken into account. Managed care payers may be willing to pay RxMedia if you can modify the technology to provide one-to-one communication and free up the pharmacist to fill more Rx's.

Please contact me at debushell@yahoo.com to have further discussion.

Congrats on winning the Kellogg Cup! Obviously a very large accomplishment. You guys really did a great job with the pitch, and will be a big success I'm sure. The franchise dynamic was perticularly compelling.

Congrats again to your team for a well deserved victory.
